It‘s a long drive from the airport Heraklion but totally worth it and full of adventure. On the way to balos, which is on the west coast of Crete, you‘ll also pass Chania, such a beautiful place. Once you arrive in balos you have to pay a small tax of 1€ per person to enter the lagoon. For the 7 kilometers ride to get to the parking we needed more than half an hour because the roads are not really made for cars;)From the parking down to the lagoon you will walk another 2 kilometers,make sure you‘re not in flip flop‘s. The view during the hike is breathtaking what makes the way down easier:)
The water here is the most clearest and bluest on the whole island. Caribbean feelings coming up. The beach is not too crowded because many people avoid the long way to get here. For me it was the highlight of Crete though and i recommend everyone to go there when travelling to Crete.
