From piazza Plebiscito walk towards the sea promenade, along lungomare Francesco Caracciolo, you won’t miss it. Make sure you admire the amazing view over the Vesuvio vulcan.
The castle's name - Castel dell'Ovo (in English, Egg Castle) comes from a legend about the Roman poet Virgil, who had a reputation in the Middle Ages as a great future teller. Apparently, he put a magical egg into the castle foundations to support the fortifications. Had this egg been broken, the castle would have been destroyed and a series of disastrous events for Naples would have happened.
